The design of this item is derived from the term "ice", which is used as slang for addictive drugs in China.

This item pays homage to Kotoha Aoi, a character from the text-to-speech software VOICEROID.
Kotoha Aoi and another VOICEROID character, Kotoha Akane, are sisters.
Similarly, Yatsuhashi Tsukumo and Benben Tsukumo from the Touhou Project are also sisters.

A well-known fan-created trait of Kotoha Aoi is her love for chocomint ice.
Meanwhile, her sister Kotoha Akane is popularly depicted in fan works as fond of fried shrimp.

Initially, to commercialize the technology of the Kansai dialect engine, AI Inc. planned to design a character named "Kotoha Akane" who would speak in the Kansai dialect. However, because a character exclusively using the Kansai dialect would be difficult for wider use (not everyone speaks or understands it), AI Inc. also created a version that uses standard Japanese, namely "Kotoha Aoi".
