The design of this item draws inspiration from the "Cherry Point" System in Touhou Youyoumu and the anecdote about Yuyuko Saigyouji titled "The Cherry Tree Known as Saigyou Ayakashi" in Perfect Memento in Strict Sense.
In Perfect Cherry Blossom, Yuyuko Saigyouji collects Spring from Gensokyo to make Saigyou Ayakashi bloom completely. A full bloom of Saigyou Ayakashi lures people to their death. After Saigyou Ayakashi was sealed, the cherry tree has never fully bloomed again.

Mechanically, collecting Cherry Points in-game is equivalent to gathering Spring. Losing the item after obtaining enough Cherry Points symbolizes the unsealing of Saigyou Ayakashi, and removing all enemies on the current floor represents Saigyou Ayakashi luring them to their demise.
