Description
Cannot have Red Heart containers. Any item that gives Red Heart containers will grant a Black Heart instead.

Tarnished Judas has 3 shadow clones that mimic his movement and shooting, inheriting any tear effects and weapon modifiers.

The clones can be moved further away and rotated by holding down the drop button and using the fire keys. They can move through enemies and over pits and obstacles.

Holding down the drop button will regroup the clones and combine them with Tarnished Judas.

Damage dealt by the clones scales with how close they are to Tarnished Judas, ranging from 5% when grouped, up to 100% at maximum distance.

The clones group with Tarnished Judas upon entering any room.

Devil Deals add 2 Broken Heart containers each instead of requiring regular health containers, while Angel Deals add 2 Blue Broken Heart containers.

Only one Angel or Devil Deal item may be taken at a time - the other items will disappear once one is picked up.

Based on the number of Broken or Blue Broken Heart containers held, Tarnished Judas has unique Angel and Devil phases.

He always starts at Phase 1 which is neutral and features 3 shadow clone familiars.

The unique Devil phases are achieved by acquiring Broken Heart containers:
• Devil Phase 2: 4-7 Broken Heart containers - 5 shadow clones; x0.9 damage multiplier.
• Devil Phase 3: 8+ containers - 7 shadow clones; x0.85 damage multiplier.

Alternatively, Angel phases are achieved by acquiring Blue Broken Heart containers:
• Angel Phase 2: 4-7 Blue Broken Heart containers - replaces one of the Shadow Clones with an Angelic variant called Radiance. This clone cannot shoot any tears. The damage of the other clones requires half the distance to reach 100%. Upgrades Descent by including an additional damaging circle in the shadow lines' intersection.
• Angel Phase 3: 8+ Blue Broken Heart containers - all Shadow Clones are replaced with a single Radiance clone who is now able to shoot tears. His tears scale oppositely of the Shadow Clones - ranging from 205% of Tarnished Judas' damage when combined, down to 100% when furthest away. Further upgrades Descent by increasing the circle's radius and affecting enemies with the Radiant Gaze status effect.

Tarnished Judas always takes a full heart of damage, except for sacrifice mechanics such as Curse Rooms, Devil Beggars, and Blood Donation Machines.
Unlock: As Tainted Judas, finish the first floor without using Dark Arts. Then, enter the Pentagram that spawns in the Boss Room, and continue to Depths II. Reach the Boss Room in either Sheol or Cathedral. [video tutorial]
